We’ve had a great first two weeks of Wednesdays in the Park this summer. It is a big hit and a great time of fellowship and time in the Word. Hope you can join us as we gather in a different park around the city each week on Wednesday nights at 6:30pm. It is a good opportunity for us to be a positive presence in our community each week.
We’ll work on getting the video of the teachings posted on the church website for each week, but here is the first one…enjoy.
Wow, had an awesome time in Orlando at the Pastors’ Conference and Southern Baptist Convention along with some extra time for family vacation.
Some of the highlights from the Conference and Convention…
Great music…
Our kids loved the Watoto Children’s Choir…
Loved the emphasis on adoption…many of the leaders this year were adoptive families themselves…a new adoption scholarship fund was launched with the conference and one couple received the first gift…powerful…
Fascinating hearing the great mind Ravi Zacharias teach…
Ed Stetzer always has deep stuff about the missional church…
Francis Chan is so powerful…and yet so humble…spoke about the importance of “knowing Christ” and so much more…
Andy Stanley has such great leadership insight…definitely provided some stuff to chew on for awhile…
After the Conference came the Convention…
A very interesting experience as a first time attender…11,000 messengers…where a major emphasis was on the adoption of the recommendations of the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force…
Â
Got to hear the lead singer for Sonicflood sing…
Also got to hear Casting Crowns in concert…
Of course, there was so much more…
Enjoyed the opportunity to represent East Side as well as our family time away together. Thank you East Side!
I wanted to thank everyone (and there were lots of folks) who helped get the new stage done in time for our Good Friday and Easter worship services. You guys are awesome! Thanks for serving the Lord!
Well, we kicked off our Tuesday morning Men’s “Contend” Study at 6:00am…way too early in the morning for me, but a great time none-the-less. Here are a few pics.
Well, a few months ago I got the staff guys good (at least I thought) by using Yearbook Yourself to create some hilarious pictures of them which I then subsequently shared with the church on a Sunday morning as a illustration about transformation. Well, Dan told me they would get me back at some point…which they did last Sunday night. Payback I guess. At our Valentines Comedy Fellowship Night everybody got a good laugh out of this video of some Wednesday night teaching from 1 Samuel that they had spliced together with some of their “questions”:
So I guess they think they’re pretty funny (it was funny…I do have to say). I guess they’re up for some friendly competition… : )
The MEN’S ADVANCE is just about here…February 5-6th at the McKenzie River Conference Center (United States Basketball Academy). Phil and I will be teaching three sessions on the topic of “Building & Fighting.” We’ll talk about principles for building and fighting on the personal front, on the home front, and on the church front. In addition, we’ll also enjoy great food, worship, and fellowship. Here’s last weekend’s video.
This fall at East Side Jamie and I led our Wednesday night adult study through Tedd Tripp’s Shepherding A Child’s Heart. I think it is one of the best things out there dealing with what it means to parent biblically. We also recommend working through the companion Parent’s Handbook as it allows parents to dig much deeper into the foundational biblical principles for shepherding our children. In addition, Tedd and Margy Tripp also have a newer book out called Instructing A Child’s Heart that we highly recommend. Parents will greatly benefit from reading and working through these books more than once. You might even consider going through them once a year for refreshing.
We also recommend watching the following five sessions from the recent Biblical Parenting Conference at Mars Hill Church in Seattle. In the videos Tedd teaches the foundational concepts for shepherding a child’s heart.(advice – in order to play a second video in this post after watching a previous one…you’ll probably need to refresh the page first.)
Phil and I had a lot of fun thinking about how to creatively talk about the anticipation of Christmas…so, in case you missed it…here is the message JESUS MESSIAH from the Hanging of the Green service. These have got to be the coolest Christmas sweaters ever!
This text will be replaced
I also wanted to thank everyone who put a great deal of work into making last Sunday’s Hanging of the Green service so wonderful…especially Wayne as he worked with the Choir and Worship Team.
