I wanted to give a shout out to my sister-in-law Ashley Harris for taking some time to shoot some awesome pics of our family. Of course, having some great family pictures provided some new material for the page about me and our family on the church site which you can check out here.

I also wanted to thank my wife Jamie for taking some great new staff pictures which I was able to use on the staff page of the church website which you can check out here. Jamie also took some great pics that I could use on this blog.

Well, worked a little last night and this morning on the new graphics for the 2 Kings series we’ll be kicking off this weekend. I purchased a shield illustration that I thought could work with the feel of the series I was going for. Originally it had kind of green and blue colors going on, but I messed with it in Photoshop, changed it to black and white, brightened it, and added some gradient overlays. Then I found a font I thought worked with it, and took the eraser with a paint splat brush set to fairly small…and started erasing some of the text. I like the result in the end. I think we’ll experiment with either purple and green stage and wall lights or perhaps purple and blue…I think the lights will look crisp contrasted against the silver and gray graphic.

I used the original green background from the graphic to make a background for our Wednesday night study.

As we’ve been going through these books, we’ve also had coordinating bulletins printed locally. We actually have them print 2 bulletins per sheet and then we cut them horizontally after the inside is printed each week with announcements and such. The folded result is like a CD cover.

If you’re interested, I’ll be launching a fresh design for the church site soon. Here’s a link to a preview page where you can check it out. You can also preview the new church blog here.
As I mentioned in my earlier post about our trip to Orlando for the Southern Baptist Convention and Pastor’s Conference in June, one of the cool things was the emphasis on adoption. Here’s the video testimony they played during the conference that tells a little bit about the launching of the SBC Adoption Fund for Ministers. Pass it on!
I wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of the super volunteers who made VBS so awesome this year! I want to give a special shout out to Donna, Charity, and Laurel who led the way in making it happen. Thanks for your hard work that played a huge role in seeing 103 kids participate. (And thanks to my Jamie for taking these great pics!)

I also wanted to thank everyone else who put so much time and effort into the week and the joy you brought to the kids.

I also thought the theme decorations for this year were way cool…I still can’t believe Ramon built a working wagon!

And last but not least, thanks to all the kids for joining in the fun!

We’ve had a great first two weeks of Wednesdays in the Park this summer. It is a big hit and a great time of fellowship and time in the Word. Hope you can join us as we gather in a different park around the city each week on Wednesday nights at 6:30pm. It is a good opportunity for us to be a positive presence in our community each week.
We’ll work on getting the video of the teachings posted on the church website for each week, but here is the first one…enjoy.
Wow, had an awesome time in Orlando at the Pastors’ Conference and Southern Baptist Convention along with some extra time for family vacation.
Some of the highlights from the Conference and Convention…
Great music…

Our kids loved the Watoto Children’s Choir…

Loved the emphasis on adoption…many of the leaders this year were adoptive families themselves…a new adoption scholarship fund was launched with the conference and one couple received the first gift…powerful…

Fascinating hearing the great mind Ravi Zacharias teach…

Ed Stetzer always has deep stuff about the missional church…

Francis Chan is so powerful…and yet so humble…spoke about the importance of “knowing Christ” and so much more…

Andy Stanley has such great leadership insight…definitely provided some stuff to chew on for awhile…

After the Conference came the Convention…
A very interesting experience as a first time attender…11,000 messengers…where a major emphasis was on the adoption of the recommendations of the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force…

Got to hear the lead singer for Sonicflood sing…

Also got to hear Casting Crowns in concert…

Of course, there was so much more…
Enjoyed the opportunity to represent East Side as well as our family time away together. Thank you East Side!
I wanted to thank everyone (and there were lots of folks) who helped get the new stage done in time for our Good Friday and Easter worship services. You guys are awesome! Thanks for serving the Lord!
Here is the BEFORE:
And here is the AFTER:
Pretty cool! Thanks again everyone!
Well, we kicked off our Tuesday morning Men’s “Contend” Study at 6:00am…way too early in the morning for me, but a great time none-the-less. Here are a few pics.
