Random Stuff

Posted under Uncategorized

Here’s some random stuff for you today:

  • Dan and I (mostly Dan-our Creative Arts Director) were kicking around ideas for some Mac v. PC Home Groups spoofs.  When these videos get launched it is going to be hilarious!
  • I think my hard drive died on my main computer at home on Thursday.  I’m not 100% positive…but it certainly seems like it right now.  It’s not good when your hard drive “clunks” and you get the “blue screen of death.” This is a reminder to everyone who reads this…always BACKUP regulary…lesson learned!  Potentially only 300Gigs of video gone…I want to cry.  There’s some hope of resurrection but so far tech support has been no help.
  • Today and tomorrow our staff team and wives will be in Portland experiencing the worship environments of four different succesfully growing churches.  It’s gonna be cool!
  • I’ve been studying the Book of Judges for quite a while now for an upcoming sermon series.  There is some crazy stuff in that book!  I can’t wait to preach it…it’s going to be “interesting.”  We’re calling the series…American Idols.

Well, that’s all for now.

Upcoming Staff Trip

Posted under Leadership

I’m getting pumped about our upcoming Staff/key Leader and wives retreat this weekend.  We’re heading up to Portland overnight to check out some effective and fast growing Northwest Churches.  We’ll be hitting one (possibly two) churches on Saturday and two other churches on Sunday.  One of the key purposes of the trip is to experience the “Worship Environments” of these churches, generate discusion about how to improve our own environment, and further cast a vision of “what could be, not what has been for our church”…to steal a phrase from Dr. Crews of the NWBC.   I’m looking forward to blogging more about our experiences in these churches.

On a family note, my 3 year old’s main expectation from the trip is plenty of time in the swimming pool and hot tub at the hotel.  Well now, that sounds pretty good to me too…along with getting to hang out with my family and some really great friends from our church.

Home Groups Launch!

Posted under Church

Last night we kicked off our new Home Groups system.  It was awesome!  We set them up to run on the 1st and 3rd Sunday nights of every month at 6pm.  Our Home Groups are designed to foster church health and church growth.  They’re all about helping people connect in a casual environment.  Paralleling the habit of the early church who regularly met in the temple courts (big church) as well as from house to house (little church), these groups are designed around the ideas of fun, friendship, food, family, and faith.

Our launch was a huge success.  It became quickly apparent that we are going to need to get some more leaders trained and get their groups launched!
