Wednesdays in the Park – Kickoff!

Posted under Church

Last week on July 15th we kicked off a fun summer idea – “Wednesdays in the Park.”  We’ve decided to take church outdoors and into the city for July and August.  Every Wednesday at 6:30pm we’ll be gathering at a different city park instead of inside the church building.  For this first week, we BBQ’d hotdogs, played frisbee and football, the kids ran around having a blast, and Phil shared a short teaching from the Gospels called “Jesus Outdoors.”  We had close to 80 people show up with lawn chairs, blankets, and smiles…it was pretty exciting!

The idea isn’t as much about outreach as it is about just being a friendly presence for Christ in our community.  We’re also taking time each week at the end of the evening to pray for that particular part of the city…praying that the families from our church that live in that area would have opportunities to share Christ with their neighbors, as well as praying that God would open doors for us as a church to reach that area.  The Bible tells us to be salt and light…and we’re praying that the Lord would use this as an opportunity to be such.  And…it’s a great time of fellowship with the church family!
